Blossoming designer wall light Poppy with flexarm

Poppy designer wall light – switch it on to see its petals unfold As the sun rises in the morning the plant world awakes. Flowers gradually open and turn to the sun. This natural spectacle, which is repeated each and every day, has been used as inspiration for a designer light that imitates this effect, created by designers Ulrich Beckert, Georg Soanca-Pollak and Peter Thammer. The result is Poppy – a wall light with a special secret. The 75 cm long arm projects forwards from the polished stainless steel bracket – and just like the stem of a plant, it can be adjusted to the required position. A metal flexible arm sits below the black fabric cover and allows the arm to be moved into any direction. The highlight of the wall light – the head of the flower – sits at the end of the arm. The bulb sits within the black-violet reflector capsule, which is made from hand-blown glass. It is a perfect location as the glass capsule causes the light to shimmer in a violet shade, whilst also letting it escape through the opening in the front. In order to perfect the look of a flower and to add a touch of life to Poppy, the designers have come up with something very special. The metal discs, which at first glance look like standard decorative elements to give the impression the flower has petals, actually provide a physical masterstroke. The petals have been made from a special bimetal – a material that expands when it heats up and retracts as it cools. As the pieces of metal are warmed by the light bulb, they begin to unfurl – the process takes less than two minutes and perfectly mimics the behaviour of a plant when the sun begins to shine. The petals close again when Poppy is switched off. Thus Poppy is a blossoming masterpiece – it will fill the room in question with floral flair and entrance all those who see the spectacle of the opening flower. Energy efficiency class:C
